Over the last few days/weeks, I’ve been asking Papa if He would shine His light into all of the dark corners of my soul. And let me be clear, the spirit is how I communicate with Him. The soul is my mind, will, and emotions. It is in my soul where I store my garbage that I don’t want Him to see (a la Adam and Eve trying to cover their nakedness). (Rhetorical aside: Why does the natural man believe he can hide from the eternal God? And why does he even feel it necessary to try?)
I have been walk… Continue

I have a facebook friend, C who loves to post quotes by famous people (most of whom ironically I have never heard of) which sometimes sound reasonable and true at first but as I think about them more deeply, I find the quotes do not reflect the truth. I have disagreed with and rebutted so many famous people's quotes (posted by C) on facebook that people probably think that I'm trying to be (or am) a smart aleck.
Anyway, C recently put up a quote which I again disagree with:
There are only two… Continue
This week I'm happy to present a new feature on Growing in Grace, in addition to my regular weekly podcast with Mike Kapler. "Growing in Grace Together" will feature informal conversations with various people, simply chatting with them about their own grace journeys.
For this in… Continue

Look at the picture above, what do you see? Many of you, if you look very hard, can probably see the word "DeFeat" in yellow embedded in the word "victoRY" in black.
This picture illustrates the kind of preachers and preaching we see in many churches today - preachers who do not or dare not preach the total a… Continue

As I listened in on the international grace party this morning, my heart was full of such joy, which is still fully manifesting in my heart as I type this. I cannot even put into words the joy that I feel since entering into this wonderful revelation of the Grace and freedom of God. For thirty years I thought I was free, even though I didn't feel free...hahaha, but now that the Lord has removed the scales from my eyes and I see with the heart, I am totally overwhelmed at His amazing love. I want… Continue

Last night, I had an interesting little "debate" with a facebook friend, C over a quotation which he posted:
We have suffered from the preaching of cheap grace. Grace is free, but it is not cheap. People will take anything that is free, but they are not interested in discipleship. They will take Christ as Savior but not as Lord. (Vance Havner)
I have written a few posts discussing why there is no such thing as "Cheap Grace" before (see here, here and here), so this time I was foc… Continue

I first posted these two videos a couple of years ago, a few weeks after Tammy Faye Bakker died. I thought Jay had some great things to say about grace and relationships - but not only "talk" - it seems as if he is really living it out. And Mark is simply a hoot to listen to. =D

I have denied it ever since I was a kid, but I can no longer live like this. At 55 it is time to be open and honest about it. When I became a Christian at age 16, I thought that was the way to deal with this and I prayed hard and tried for 30-some years and then I was just realizing, I am still that way. I know I am. And I just reached a place where I cannot take it anymore — when I was going through all this darkness, I thought, "Just end this."
To be guilty of something that the Bible calls a… Continue
(A look at this verse in context and with my own personal story).
You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? (Gal 5:7)
It's a long story to tell about the years leading up to the beginning of what some would call my "walk with Jesus," but suffice it to say that I can't remember a time in life when I was not a believer. Yet I do recall a specific day - January 7, 1992 - when things really changed in my life and I began "running," so to speak.
I was 2… Continue
So often we seem to make the Christian life about our work that we do for God. But as we discuss this week, it's not about the work that we do for God, but rather about His work that He does in and through us! HE has begun a good work in us and HE is faithful to complete it!… Continue
Church without religion. That's who we are. Tired of all the rules? Tired of the pressure? Just want to know Jesus Christ in a deeper way? You've come to the right place.
Our teaching may surprise you. It will definitely challenge you. And if you're truly listening, it will change your life forever.
You'll find yourself wrestling with your current belief system and deciding whether it holds up to close scrutiny. To embrace truth, you'll be asked to strip away the pat answers and the churchy ja… Continue
I live in a small suburban community, on a private lane of about 7 houses. Yesterday, my neighbor decided to have a neighborhood BBQ. This is the first time we have ever lived in a community where anyone has ever gotten together like this. It was amazing. Every family showed up, and one other person from a street beside us. It was like we had known each other forever. I am convinced that this gathering was God-ordained....and He set it up with no help from me...hahaha! Relationships are developi… Continue

The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body — whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free — and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 1 Cor 12:12-13 NIV
This passage, along with the surrounding words, and Romans 12 as well, has played a huge part in helping me understand my identity in Christ. These passages are actually about the… Continue
The Seed*
A successful business man was growing old & knew it was time to choose a successor to take over the business. Instead of choosing one of his Directors or his children, he decided to do something different. He called all the young executives in his company together.
He said, 'It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I have decided to choose one of you. 'The young executives were shocked, but the boss continued. 'I am going to give each one of you a SEED today - one… Continue

Being Heard: Once a safe space has been created, the second objective is for each participant is to be heard, to speak what is going on in his/her heart and life. Communicating what is going on in the heart is a vital work. So often what causes a breakdown in our personal lives is the fear that grips us from the unknown, the inability to deal with a problem, or denying what is true in the present. By addressing it in a safe space, the participant can begin to see that he/she is not alone… Continue
Church Is Not A Building (From the RANSOMED HEART site)
09/24/2009
Church is not a building. Church is not an event that takes place on Sundays. I know, its how we think of it. “I go to First Baptist.” “We are members of St. Luke’s.” “Is it time to go to church?” Much to our surprise, that is not how the Bible uses the term. Not at all. When the Scripture talks about church, it means community. The little fellowships of the heart that are outposts of the kingdom. A shared life. They worship tog… Continue
(Posted on my blog yesterday)
Last week I was referred by my doctor to a physical therapist because of pain, soreness and numbness in my left leg and foot. Today on my second visit, I received some encouragement - a great reminder - from the Lord through my interaction with the therapist.
Through maneuvering my body and trying to stretch it in various ways, the therapist has revealed to me that certain sets of… Continue
Please hear my heart....I am not against reaching the lost or getting involved in various ministries in a local assembly, but it does grieve my heart when so much emphasis is put on everything, but Jesus. We can do many, many good things for God, and even feel good about doing… Continue
I read Derrick's comment on my post "Is Grace A Cover Up?" in which he said:
"Bevere said, "Don't confuse between justification and sanctification."
Mark Driscoll (reformed) and John Bevere (charismatic?) are both saying the same thing and you are disagreeing with both."
I don't understand all these theological labels ... reformed, charismatic, puritan, anglican, methodist, baptist, pentecostal, lutheran, etc. Does the ordinary Christian appreciate the difference? Does it matter to hi… Continue
